Love, Twue Love...

In the midst of a pile of Interior Architecture work (with the documentation of found here!), gift time at Clinique, and the sporadic unpacking and decorating of our new house, Alex and I decided to move the wedding up. Say whaaat? We originally had our venue on reserve for November 10th, and after a few weeks of panic (by me) and declarations to elope (by Alex) of seeing what life is like in school in the design world, it quickly became apparent that if a wedding were to actually happen this year, it would have to be this summer.

So things have changed. Luckily, our venue, photographer and caterer all were free on the day that we originally wanted to get married back in August when we first got engaged: June 16th. And since this decision was made a few weeks ago, I have somehow found the time to pick up a dress. The "big" stuff has been taken care of, and while this wedding will probably have a more traditional southern feel to it than we were originally wanting, the details that go into the remainder of the decisions has me a little stumped. The mood board I was working on was for a November wedding in the fall, which needs to be tweaked a little now that we are looking at a summer wedding in June. (80 degree days and lots of sun!)

The most pressing issue right now is figuring out what the heck to tell my bridesmaids to wear. With a little bit of wedding porn to help out stylistically, this is what I am currently leaning towards:

Additionally, I find the colors and feel of this wedding to be super cute for June too. Any thoughts on where to find dresses that are similar yet flattering?

2012

2012 is going to be my year. I was really building up to it in 2011, talking big talk about how good this year was going to be. And then as 2011 began to come to a close, a giant mass of things started happening all at once.

I had started back at school this fall at UNCG, taking several art classes and trying to find my niche. And then there was that "aha!" moment when I met with the Department Chair of the Interior Architecture program to figure out if it was a good fit and she let me in. Not in a "take these classes this spring and we'll see you in the fall" kind of way, but in the "go talk to Tommy about what you need to know so you'll be caught up in January" kind of way. Humbling. Overwhelming. Exciting. All at once.

And then, on the personal front, Alex and I started talking about the next few years and what they might look like. The Interior Architecture program will take four years. And his job is one of the best in the big ole state of North Cackalackey for high school history teachers. Our apartment was super small. And with a little bit of research we realized we might be able to buy a house. A few weeks into the house search, we put an offer in the week before Thanksgiving. By Christmas, we were closing in less than a week.

We rang in 2012 on an air mattress in our new Master Bedroom, exhausted from packing and moving. I spent the following week trying out paint samples, unpacking, moving over our bills, setting up our internet service, picking out a new dishwasher and taking down wallpaper.

School started two weeks ago, and I am loving it. And exhausted. And I still eat up any and all design that I can get my hands on in my spare time. All projects are now documented on my school blog, http://catherineleighdesign.blogspot.com/ with multiple posts added each week. So if I am a little slow to post here, stay with me. And check my other blog if you are wondering what it is that I'm doing.

There will be house updates and wedding updates and general life updates posted here sporadically. Here's to 2012.

Alex and I are enjoying the holidays and our first Christmas with a mini-break from work together. Regularly scheduled posts will be back later this week with a super awesome surprise! In the meantime, best wishes for a wonderful Christmas holiday!
